The progenitor of theHenry Sanders line appears to havebeen Hugh Sanders who is first noted in a record dated March 8, 1664(O.S.)when he patented 400 acres in the Upper Parish of Nansemond Countyadjoiningthe .The grant was for theimportation of himself, Sarah Norville, Elizabeth Sanders, JohnRoberts, MarySanders, Joane Rogers, Henry Sanders, and Ann Sanders. Except for HenrySanders, who from later records is probably Hugh’s son, theidentity of theseother people is not clear, though they probably were relatives.
